Raleigh Cycles Exhibition

Robin Phillips has drawn my attention to the exhibition, starting on 12 April, on the history of Raleigh Cycles Nottingham, which is taking place in the Weston  Gallery of the Lakeside Art Centre at University Park. It is being organised by the Manuscripts and Special Collections Department of the Nottingham University Library.

3.       Wednesday 7 May 2008: ‘Pedal Power: The history of the bicycle’.  Douglas Pinkerton, cycle restorer and historian, will discuss the historical development of early bicycles and their impact on the lives of individual people, businesses and families.
4.       Wednesday 18 June 2008: ‘Made in Nottingham: The Raleigh Cycle Archive’.  Alexa Rees (Nottinghamshire Archives), curator of the exhibition, will provide an insight into the Raleigh archives chosen for display, and discuss the choices made during the curation process.
5.       Wednesday 9 July 2008: ‘Making a Name: Archives, Advertising and Business Icons, 1900-1950’.  Archivist Peter Lester (Nottinghamshire Archives) will explore the wide range of advertising, promotional and publicity material found in local business collections held at Nottinghamshire Archives.
