Weekly bike rides in Nottingham - Request for help

Get Nottingham CyclingRequest for help from Murat Basaran...

"on behalf of the cycling for health project for volunteers to be available to either lead or assist in bike rides for various areas of Nottingham."

"These include areas such as Bulwell, Broxtowe, Aspley, Bilborough, Lenton........as well as the two we have set up from Sneinton and Meadows

It would be to collaborate with Health Trainers/YMCA and Ridewise

The aim is to get people getting into gentle paced weekly rides, giving some exercise, confidence and motivation as well as meeting likeminded people...

We would aim for rides to be up to an hour long"

Exercise is something which

Exercise is something which is very much neglected these days. We cant however blame them. The reasons are many. Persons who are in the field of business and other private firms find it hard to exercise. There is no time. That’s the excuse they put forward and although that is a solid excuse that doesn’t mean that exercising is impossible. The Nottingham weekly bike rides is such an example. These health projects guarantee benefits for everyone who are in it! Ankle Brace

Me and my mate Dave took

Me and my mate Dave took part in the 50 mile ride at the GNBR 2009 and had a great time. I had only been training for a short time after having had a problem with my Pelvis [Falling off my bike cos I could'nt get my foot out the cleat] and so mcts 70-562 was pleased that I did the 50 miles in just over 4 hours. I changed my tyres for some thinner ones instead of my MTB tyres and was well pleased with the result. One thing I noticed was the number of club riders on road bikes who seemed to suffer with 70-536 exam tyres/wheels along the pot holed section of the track at the beginning. Maybe next year the roadies could do a slightly different route from the MTB brigade to avoid these problems?

The club provides coached

The club provides coached weekly training sessions across all 3 disciplines and runs a weekly Junior Club every Sunday for children aged between 8 and 16 years, they have also recently secured the National Watersports Centre for open water swim training. All abilities are welcome including beginners and sessions are lead by Steve Lloyd a Level 3 Triathlon Coach and an active triathlete who qualified for the World Championships in 2008. Steve said “I have been staggered by the amount of people attending our sessions and becoming members, I have worked with Triathlon Clubs for years and this is unheard of. It goes to show that there was a need for a Triathlon Club in the north of Nottingham, people are joining for all sorts of reasons including just to get fit and have a challenge as well as many talented athletes coming to hone their skills”. The club was launched with the help of a Nottingham City Council grant and have already secured Langdale Lightweights Bike Shop as sponsor of the Junior section, they are also hoping to secure further funding from other sources to provide taster sessions for local schools and support and develop additional club coaches.

it was as usual very well

it was as usual very well organised! Shame I think that the local CTC ran all its usual Sunday rides - why couldn't they have done at least one of the distances on offer (75, 50 and 18 miles) en masse in Club kit as a form of promotion? And yes I have asked some of them in the past, but with no real answer. I suspect that many of the members don't really WANT cycling to be a mass passtime - ruins the elitist image!
